Contaminated Soil Removal

Remove Only What Must Go. Safely.

We remove impacted soil precisely — taking out only what needs to come out, even around live utilities and buried structures — then contain and haul it to an approved facility. Surgical excavation that keeps disposal volumes down and works alongside your environmental consultant.

The Process

What Contaminated Soil Removal Is

When soil on a site is impacted — by hydrocarbons from an old fuel tank, by historical industrial use, by a spill — it has to come out and go somewhere it's allowed to go. The challenge is rarely the digging itself. It's removing the impacted material precisely, without dragging clean soil into the disposal stream, and without striking the utilities and structures that tend to run through exactly the areas that need remediation.

This is where non-destructive excavation earns its place. High-pressure water breaks up the impacted soil and a high-capacity vacuum lifts the slurry straight into a contained debris tank — no spoil pile spreading across the site, no mechanical bucket tearing through buried lines, and a removal footprint that can be held to the area that actually needs it. Taking out only what has to come out keeps disposal volumes — and the cost and liability that ride with them — as low as the job allows.

From the tank, the material is hauled by a licensed carrier to a facility approved to receive it. OE handles the excavation and the compliant haulage as one scope, coordinated with the Customer's environmental consultant or qualified person, who directs the testing, classification, and where the material is permitted to go.

Where OE fits: OE is the precision-excavation and licensed-haulage partner on a contaminated-soil job — not the environmental consultant. Classifying the soil, assessing the site, and filing the records Ontario requires are the work of a qualified person under the Customer's direction. OE removes the material precisely and moves it compliantly, working to that plan. One scope, clear lanes.
Locates first: Impacted soil is often most concentrated around the buried tanks, lines, and structures that caused or contained it. Before any excavation, we work to confirmed locates. Non-destructive removal is the method that protects those structures and the crew — but safer than the alternative is not the same as safe. The locate comes first.

Contaminated Soil Removal Applications

🛢️

Around Underground Storage Tanks

Removing hydrocarbon-impacted soil from around a tank or its former footprint without striking the structure.

🔌

Utility-Congested Remediation

Taking out impacted soil where lines and conduit run through the dig area, where a bucket can't safely work.

🎯

Targeted Hot-Spot Removal

Surgically removing a defined pocket of impacted soil instead of over-excavating the area around it.

🚨

Spill Response Excavation

Clearing impacted soil after a release, with the material contained in the tank from the first scoop.

🚛

Excess Soil Off-Site Removal

Loading and licensed haulage of excess soil leaving a project area to an approved receiving site.

🏭

Constrained & Active Sites

Working in tight industrial or commercial footprints where bulk equipment can't fit or can't run.

🧪

Confirmation & Validation Digs

Precise removal supporting a consultant's confirmation sampling at the limits of an excavation.

🏗️

Tank & Structure Decommissioning Support

Exposing and clearing soil around infrastructure being removed, alongside the project team.

Why OE

The Integrated Difference

On a contaminated-soil job the expensive part is usually what leaves the site. OE's value is taking out only what has to go — and doing it as part of a full-service operation, in clear lanes with your consultant.

Precision keeps volumes down.

Surgical, non-destructive removal takes out the impacted material without dragging clean soil into the disposal stream — and disposal volume is where contaminated-soil budgets live.

One call, one team.

The crew removing the soil can also expose the utilities, daylight the tank, or trench the line in the same mobilization — not three contractors coordinating around each other. One call. One team. Get more out.

Clear lanes with your consultant.

OE removes and hauls; the qualified person classifies, assesses, and files. Each party does what it's accountable for, which is what keeps a remediation defensible.

Six yards across Ontario.

Vaughan, Hamilton, Durham, Barrie, London, and Ottawa crews mean a unit close to the site without long-haul mobilization.

Bundling precise removal with the rest of the scope — and taking out only what has to go — is where OE's LEAN approach pays off: up to 10% cost savings and 50% productivity gains, plus a $40/hr discount when services are booked together. Keeping disposal volumes down cuts haulage, and OE's central GTA operations cut travel costs and emissions by 30%, while our NextGen hydrovacs run 10dB quieter for residential and noise-sensitive sites.

Representative Work

OE crew removing impacted soil around buried infrastructure on a constrained Ontario site, material contained on the truck.
Soil Removal

Removing only what had to come out

On a constrained site where impacted soil sat tight against buried utilities, an OE crew removed the material with non-destructive excavation — breaking it up and vacuuming it straight into a contained tank, with no spoil pile and no machine working over the lines. The removal was held to the area the project's consultant had defined, which kept clean soil out of the disposal stream and the off-site volume down. The contained material was hauled by a licensed carrier to an approved facility, with the crew working to the consultant's plan throughout.
