Material Slinger Trucks

One Call. One Team. Get More Out.

A material slinger truck places stone, gravel, sand and soil with a high-speed conveyor, in a controlled stream, right where it's needed. OE's stone slingers support its backfill and restoration work, so excavations are filled and restored by the same company that dug them.

Why OE

Material Slinger Trucks From One Company

OE's restoration work is supported by a diverse fleet, including on-demand U-Fill concrete trucks, stone slingers and dump trucks.

Aggregate and sand delivery sits under one company with hydrovac excavation, road cutting and coring, U-Fill, surface restoration, and soil disposal and recycling. That removes the inefficiency, the redundant travel and the coordination overhead that come with multiple subcontractors.

One Call, One Team

One call gives fast, easy access to streamlined end-to-end services, from excavation to restoration.

Backfill by the Same Team

Excavations are backfilled by the company that dug them, with aggregate from a stone slinger or dump truck, or with U-Fill.

Recycled Sand

Sand recycled from hydrovac waste is washed to meet the Ontario Provincial Standard Specification and is often used to refill excavated holes.

As Good or Better Than Before

OE takes pride in making excavation look like it never happened, restoring the ground to look as good or better than before.

What It Is

What a Material Slinger Truck Is

A material slinger is a truck-mounted, high-speed conveyor that launches material to the target area in a controlled stream.

Fed from the truck's hopper, the conveyor places gravel and stone, sand and soil precisely, with far less handling by hand, and can reach areas that are otherwise hard to access. On OE jobs, stone slingers support backfill and restoration: excavations are backfilled with aggregate from a stone slinger or dump truck, or with U-Fill unshrinkable concrete, and the surface is then restored.

Backfill has to meet the municipality's spec: in Toronto, for example, TS 4.60 calls for granular backfill under pavement in lifts no thicker than 150 mm, each compacted to at least 98% of standard Proctor maximum dry density, and in boulevards in lifts no thicker than 200 mm, compacted to 95%.

OE runs integrated operations from 6 Ontario locations, and co-location reduces travel, emissions and cost. OE's NextGen units are still working trucks, but roughly ten decibels quieter than conventional ones.

Common Questions

Material Slinger Truck FAQ

Answers to the questions OE's sales team hears most often.

What is a material slinger truck?
A truck-mounted, high-speed conveyor, fed from the truck's hopper, that launches material to the target area in a controlled stream. It places material precisely, with far less handling by hand.
What materials can a slinger place?
Gravel and stone, sand and soil. OE's recycled sand, washed to meet the Ontario Provincial Standard Specification, is often used to refill excavated holes.
Why use a slinger instead of dumping the load?
A slinger places the material where it belongs, in a controlled stream, and can reach areas that are otherwise hard to access. That means less handling by hand and less disturbance to the site around the excavation.
How does backfill need to be placed?
The municipality sets the rules. In Toronto, TS 4.60 calls for granular backfill under pavement in lifts no thicker than 150 mm, each compacted to at least 98% of standard Proctor maximum dry density; in boulevards, lifts up to 200 mm compacted to 95%. Where U-Fill is required instead, see U-Fill.
Can recycled sand be used for pipe bedding?
OE's recycled premium-grade sand is formulated for utility pipe bedding. With a slightly higher moisture content, it packs quickly and densely, with less sinkage and fewer effects from freeze-thaw contraction than traditional sand products.
Does OE restore the surface too?
Yes. OE restores hard surfaces, including concrete, asphalt, flagstone, interlocking brick, patio stone and wooden decking, and reseeds or re-sods grass, so the excavation looks like it never happened.
